John and Zanna Majerle had been traveling the US in their 40’ RV when they stumbled upon Reno, NV and decided to put down roots.
In early 2026, after waiting for a repairman for their broken refrigerator, John and Zanna’s home caught fire and was soon engulfed in flames. After a heroic attempt by Reno firefighters, the home was totally ruined between flames, smoke and water damage. All their belongings were destroyed and homeowners insurance had recently lapsed.
Just 1 day after the fire, Zanna was hospitalized after having a heart attack and 2 stents put into her arteries. Two days after Zanna’s release from the hospital, they had to euthanize their beloved Black Lab, Sampson, due to injuries from the fire. The emotional toll of this entire experience has been great.
John and Zanna and their dogs were able to find housing in a local motel and ultimately, a small apartment; however, their financial situation has not improved. Moving costs, rental deposits, and replacing furniture, clothing & household items took all their meager savings.
Despite persistent job searching, John has not been able to find permanent long-term employment and bills have been piling up, including late rent.
The greatest blessing throughout this ordeal, was John’s baptism into St. Anthony Greek Orthodox Church in Reno — a spiritual journey finally completed for him.
With tremendous gratitude and hope, John and Zanna will be using funds from this campaign to become current with rent and other bills as well as credit cards they used to stay afloat as best they could. They will be saving a small amount toward rent until John has found employment. Also, their only vehicle, a 2014 Honda CRV is in need of minor repairs costing a not-so-minor amount!
Furthermore, John has not been able to get the dental care he needs which has been causing pain and difficulty eating and speaking. Approximately half of these funds will go directly to treatment.
